2020. Long overdue if you ask me. The plight of people of color in this country is a terrible one. Many of us are willingly ignorant of so many of our neighbors. For a country that continually prides itself on being a melting pot, we continually persecute those who make it so. “Liberty and justice for all.” It doesn’t seem that way for so many of our fellow countrymen. I really didn’t want to make a post. I wanted to be silent, because it’s what is easy. But silence is why this wound continues to fester. We need to do better because George Floyd deserved better. People of all shades and creeds that make this wonderful world what it is deserve better. It won’t be easy. What’s easy is to make posts on social media as a faux warrior for justice. What’s right is to go forth everyday with love in your heart, and a mind open to empathy. I, myself, know that in the past I’m sure I have made poor judgements, and I’m sure I’m bound to make mistakes in the future. I can only ask that these mistakes lead me to clarity, and ultimately to a place of love for my fellow neighbors, of all colors. I hope that these wounds may some day heal, but we must never forget them. Too many have been hurt for too long just for their suffering to be lost to time. We must go into the future with the will to lift up those who have been pushed down. As a country we need to realize that there is more to this wonderful place than white voices. I have made a meager donation to a fund supporting Black lives in Chicago. This is but a drop in the ocean of the continued support that these people need. I did this not to absolve me of sins or with intention that it would instantly mend wounds that have long been there. I did it because it is at least a baby step In what is hopefully a new chapter of love in coexistence amongst us. That’s all these donations we see online are, a good start. The pain that I have felt looking at the nation the past few days pales in comparison to the pain people of color constantly hold in their hearts. Black Lives absolutely Matter. And we all need to do better. It’s time for everyone to push for systemic change, lest we all settle for the horrors of complacency.

Everyday for the past 18 years I catch myself getting caught up in the daydreams of what our lives would be like if you were still here and it makes me incredibly sad. However, it has made me forever grateful for the time that I was given with you. It has also made me hold my family and friends a little tighter because tomorrow is never promised for anyone. I will forever cherish your spirit and I hope put forth the love and positivity into this world that you radiated so brightly. Thank you, I love you brother, I’ll see you again someday. 🙂
